Jaguar repeatedly delivered beauty and speed at prices that embarrassed more exclusive manufacturers. Its greatest period joined the XK engine, aerodynamic design, Le Mans innovation and sophisticated suspension into road cars that looked expensive without being needlessly inaccessible.
How it evolved
The XK120 announced Britain's postwar return, C- and D-Type racers dominated Le Mans, and the E-Type translated that knowledge to the road. The XJ created a new luxury-sedan standard, while XJ-S, XJ220 and F-Type carried different pieces of the sporting identity forward.
